This past week we had a town hall meeting in which we took on the ideas on of someone who was alive during the civil war that either was pro-slavery or anti slavery. My group was all people who were pro slavery, such as, John C. Calhoun, Jefferson Davis, and Alexander Stephens. Although, we all believed that slavery was beneficial, they all had different angels on the subject.
The anti slavery teams consisted of famous people including, Abraham Lincoln, Harriet Tubman, and Thomas Jefferson. Although, I knew about most of the people, I enjoyed learning a deeper understanding of how they felt about slavery. You really under estimate how much thought went into the actions they did to abolish slavery.
Having to argue about why slavery should be legal was less difficult since I was only speaking the mind of someone who honestly believed it was beneficial. Slavery is a sensitive subject that many like to rather ignore but understanding that it is a part of our history is the first step in recovering and moving forward. It shaped the country into what it is today, and theres no doubt about it.
