We watched a short film about the March on Washington and Martin Luther King Jr.'s contribution to the Civil Rights movement. It took us through the stages of the march and the obstacles they had to overcome in order it to be the most effective.
It was very interesting to see how much effort was put into one day and although I have seen multiple videos of that day, listening to MLK's famous "I have a Dream" speech, I never really grasp the amount of support and how much of a landmark event it was. To think that close to 200,000 people from across the country to come to Washington to recognize a problem in our nation is mind blowing.
It shows the importance of having the freedom to express feelings and using that right to change what is wrong. I wish I could have been alive to see the march because an expression in that magnitude is so inspirational and makes you appreciate the fact that we live in a free country where it is our right to voice out against the government.
