We watched a film titled "White Like Me," by Tim Wise who is an activist and writer. In the documentary he discusses his experiences and observations of white privilege. He's parents were adamant about exposing him to race at a young age and put him into a predominantly black school. Later he looked back at his experience and even realized that because he was white he was treated differently than a black student.
I can relate to his situation, I went to a high school that was primarily black population where I felt out of place and looked at differently. However, just like Tim, I could since that I was treated better and was under a brighter light because of my race.
I think Wise does a great job of making us realize that as much as we think that we have put racism and discrimination behind us, it is there as much as it was before Obama became president. Although, he makes a good point that we can never be color blind but the fact that we still have problems with discrimination.
