Today, in class we watched a couple of informative videos, one from a professor of West Point and the other being a crash course video, gotta love John Greene. Both talking about how the reasoning behind the Civil War and saying there is no other reason other than slavery.
They both discussed how many Americans don't want to admit that slavery was the sole cause of the country falling apart forcing America into a civil war. It wasn't because the north was industrial and the south was agriculture, or because the south wanted the states to have more rights. It shows how much our country is in denial about issues that could possibly offend someone.
America needs to be more blunt. It is what it is and nothing can change that fact. Our history is a huge part of what makes this country what it is today and we need to face it that slavery was a big factor in the development. We now have the understanding that slavery is moral and ethically wrong but knowing it was once acceptable will help us make the country more successful.
